Day 12 ~ What do you miss? (a person, a thing, a place, a time of your life…)

I miss quite a few things.. Most of them are phasal or momentary and not prolonged.

I miss my school days, friends I used to play cricket with every evening. I miss the Pujo Pandal (Durga Puja Festival) every year in our football field where the whole society gathered every single evening to watch children perform and to socialize.

I miss my friends from school, who even today when I meet them share their life with such candor and glee. I sometimes miss that connect of “I know you since you were in your underpants, and so you can share any shit with me!”

I sometimes miss my Uncle, who was my guide and my guru for as long as he lived. He is the source of most of all I know, do, and how I see the world. He asked me questions about what I want to do in life and why I want to do what I want to do. I have kept those questions with me and I still ask myself those questions and try and ask myself if he’d have approved of what I’m going to do or am doing. No major decision gets a go ahead without that thought, more so these days than ever before.

I miss my parents.

I miss my grandpa and the stories of his adventures with wildlife and nature. Sowed the early seeds for my love for wildlife.

I miss the place I was raised in. The nature, the bird sounds, the flowers, the early morning due on the grass, the pleasure of having a hot cup of coffee sitting on the porche staring into the white fog and listening to the deafening silence interrupted by a chirp there a tweet here and a distant siren of the factory.  Such was life once! Much as I hate to typify my posts off-late.. here’s one from one of the poems I read early in my life.. Leisure- William Wordsworth and I tweak it a bit..

Such was life once, careless and carefree

In the arms of your parents, you lay in glee

You watched the butterflies flap their way from one to the next

Sparrows peck on the grass and hop

And the due drop slip through the leaves and fall to the ground

Now you don’t have time to sit and stare

What is this life, if full of care,

There is no time to sit and stare.

There are things that you always miss when you sit and finally stare. But then sometimes I really don’t want to sit and stare just coz I don’t want to miss a thing.

  1. Love how you’ve connected the ‘miss-ing’, the poem and Aerosmith.
I feel the same way, most of the time it is best to miss nothing. Because it does no good.
